If gas reaches 5.00$ a gallon will it curtail any of your camping trips ( I hope not)

Nope, we'll still get out.  We don't usually travel outside a 2 to 3 hour range anyways.

Most of our camping is within a 2 hour drive. And we have reservations already paid for into early July. So no, the price of gas won't affect our camping.

I agree most of my trips are under 2 hrs so I'll keep going as usual.

Most of ours are under 2 hours also. And what are you really to do? They've got you. You can't just give up and not camp at this point.

Same as everyone above. Our range is typically around 3 hours away, and we generally do one long distance trip a year. This year we took the kids to Disneyworld, and fortunately that was before the gas prices really started going up. Next year, it's possible the week-long trip might be a lot closer if gas really hits $5/gal.

For the weekend trips, paying an additional $35-70 to fill up is a small price to pay to get away for the weekend.

If (when) it hits $5.00, we'll have to decide if the trip to San Antonio's a desire only instead of a must do.

No, it will not. The reservations I've made are paid in full.
I will still go for weekend drives to hike, photograph, sightsee, spend the day at the beach, etc.

These numbers are just for a discussion...

Say your vehicle gets 15 miles to the gallon

At $3 per gallon it costs you $.20 per mile
At $5 per gallon it costs you $.33 per mile

If most people travel 3 hours, 150 miles to go camping

At $3 per gallon your cost for a round trip is $60
At $5 per gallon your cost for a round trip is $99

I brought the subject up with DW last night.  She just turned and said, "You just won't get your custom [cowboy] hat."

We'll be camping as well.  Most of our trips are 100 miles or less round trip anyway.  My wife spends more on gas going to Walmart 3 times a day.  So I'll ask her to make only 2 trips a day  🙂

My plans won't change. I refuse to let my lifestyle be held hostage by oil prices. Guess I'll just have to make a few more sporrans and cartridge boxes this year.

We don't plan on any changes either.  We usually only go less than an hour from home.  We do usually go on two longer trips each year, about 6 hrs from home and have a couple or 3 other places to go under 2 hours this year.  We stop eating out and cook at home or the camp site to save if we need to but staying home isn't on our list of options.

I am actually planning on more long distance trips then what I normally do.  I work too hard to give up what I enjoy if I don't have to!

Glad to see no one is going to cut back on camping. Just like my family we're not going to curtail any of our trips, with our hectic lifestyles and jobs I need my trips to relax.

Most of our camping is done within one tank round trip.  DW's unemployment is more of a deterrent than the gas prices.
I was shocked the other day when diesel was $3.89 a gal. A found a different place for $3.64, what a deal! I have a 80 miles round trip commuter everyday. So I picked up a VW Jetta diesel,  40 plus MPG. Still bites that the by-product of gas costs more than gas by .30 per gal.

While doing research on our upcoming summer trip to San Antonio I came across this site: http://www.costtodrive.com.  Based on info you fill in about location, vehicle year, make and model, it calculates the cost of the trip using fuel price in appropriate counties.
NOTE: This does not take into account towing.

Gas prices today ranging from $3.38-$3.54 for 87 octane (not 10% corn fuel.  That crap's the same price).
