ROOMMATE WANTED: Anyone in the same boat as me (pun intended, though I know it's a ship) and still really want to go on this but need someone to bunk with (read: pay the other half haha)? Friends with Cindy (MariskaHargitay) and Tristan, so they can vouch for me if you're hesitant to bunk with a stranger.
Hey guys, as your cruise is quickly approaching I thought I'd pass on a few tips from our NCL cruise in Dec. If you have found a fb group or cruise critic group for your sailing, they probably mentioned anything I have to say.
First off, although NCL is freestyle dining in the complimentary restaurants/dining rooms, if you have any specialty dining plans, it is advised to make ressies online before sailing. Same for any "must see" shows that are of interest to you. Our ship was larger than yours, so maybe the preplanning might not be as necessary as it was on our trip.
Also, even if you have reservations for a show or dinner, arrive at least 10 minutes beforehand because they will open it up to those folks in the Stand By line if you are not there.
Secondly, NCL does not use plastic straws anymore in an effort to cut down on waste. The bartenders will give you paper straws.... or on our cruise, most folks brought reusable straws from home for their drinks. Also, in the months since our cruise, another going green initiative by NCL has been to eliminate the towel animals that are usually in your room every day. I have read that you can still request them from your room steward, but they are no longer automatically left in your room every day when it is cleaned.
Most everyone recommended that we bring a power strip for plugging in or charging gadgets. We did, but never even took it out of our suitcase. Friends, however, did use theirs. As for charging items, unplug before leaving the room. If not, the room steward will disconnect. (fire precaution)
The walls & doors are metal. You can hang decorations on your door with magnets (helps you find your room easily after indulging) or use big magnetic clips to hang papers, lanyards, caps, etc in your room to keep it uncluttered.
I, personally, suggest that you meet your room steward right away, engage in a brief conversation, & perhaps giving a tip. The same with the bartenders at the bar that you frequent the most. I know gratuities are already included & you are under no obligation to tip, but a few bucks, a smile, & a few friendly words can do wonders for getting personal service all week long.
Have fun!
